An actual 1943 diesel electric submarine, the 'U.S.S. Pampanito' was chosen from among several existing World War II submarines to stand in for the Stingray. This national historical site is used by the San Francisco-based National Maritime Museum Association as a tourist attraction and is docked at the Embarcadero.
