Record Grading Guide

Mint (M): We don't sell new records, so this grade is not used.

Near Mint (NM) or (M-): Virtually flawless vinyl with minimal scuffs that are barely visible. Should play without noise, and flaws are hard to detect. The cover looks nearly perfect with minor signs of wear or age. Minor impressions from the vinyl's outer edge may be acceptable, but the artwork remains close to perfect.

Excellent (EX): Minor scuffs that are slightly visible but no visible scratches or finger-feelable marks. Minimal surface noise is acceptable in a few areas, as long as it's not constant. The cover retains its artwork close to perfection, with some minor outer ring wear impressions and slight corner creases. No seam splits, writing, or taped repairs allowed. (An EX+ is even better than EX).

Very Good Plus (VG+): Records show wear and surface scuffs, with noticeable flaws. Flaws are visible but don't cause constant surface noise. Vinyl may have surface noise in some areas, as long as it doesn't disrupt the listening experience. The cover is generally clean but may have small writing. Slight aging is noticeable, with minimal wear to seams and corners. A VG+ cover should have no more than three mentioned flaws. (An EX- is slightly better than VG+).

Very Good (VG): Records are playable but show visible wear and almost always have some surface noise. Dynamics should still be good despite surface noise. The cover appears worn and used, possibly with seam splits and ring wear. Some writing may be present, and it may look aged and yellowish due to air contaminants.

Good (G): Records look well-played, dull, and possibly abused but should still play. Expect distracting surface noise, such as continuous crackle or hiss. Loss of dynamics may be present due to groove wear. It should play without skips or obtrusively loud pops. The cover will have numerous issues, including seam splits (repaired with Scotch tape only), and may have writing in large letters. In essence, the cover may appear virtually trashed, but some artwork is still visible. If the artwork is worn, it's considered POOR, and the cover is worthless.

On a scale from 1 (Poor) to 10 (Perfect), the gradings equate to: Mint - 10, Near Mint - 8, Excellent - 7, Very Good Plus - 6, Very Good - 5, Good - 2.
