From British New Wave director Anthony Asquith (Pygmalion) comes The Browning Version, a story of redemption and understanding set in the strict environment of the English public school system. Andrew Crocker-Harris, a stuffy professor of Classical Greek is disliked by his students, being cuckolded by a colleague and denied a deserved pension by the penurious headmaster. His career, begun eighteen years prior when he was a brilliant young scholar, has become unfulfilling, replete with rules and regimentation, and he is being forced to retire early due to ill-health. All of this, combined with the prospect of a future of unhappiness and poverty and the sheer drudgery of the job, means that Crocker-Harris has distanced himself from all human emotion. However, thanks to the kindness of one of his students, Crocker-Harris is able to rekindle his humanity.
