DOCTOR IN THE HOUSE: Wide-eyed, innocent medical student Simon Sparrow (Dirk Bogarde) arrives at St Swithins Hospital. He falls in with a crowd of students who are all senior to him but who have been kept down in the first year. With them, he must master the problems of patients, teachers, nurses and an over-friendly landlady’s daughter!
DOCTOR AT SEA: Dirk Bogarde plays Simon Sparrow, who is bored of practicing medicine on dry land so sets off for the sea. Aboard a steamship he encounters various eccentric characters whilst getting himself into his usual scrapes and blundering his way through a series of comedy moments.
DOCTOR AT LARGE: Losing out to Dr Bingham (Michael Medwin) in a competition for house surgeon when he offends a member of the board, young Dr Simon Sparrow finds himself going from post to post, filling in for other physicians. At one distant country post, he is taken aback when he works with a patient whose husband died after Simon treated the man years before.
DOCTOR IN LOVE: Sir Lancelot Spratt is giving his medical students a slating to remember over a patient. The patient himself is Dr Richard Hare, a student who has fallen ill with jaundice and, due to the enticing Night Nurse, has fallen in love. So too, however, has the doctor attending his case, and both are shattered when she walks out of their lives.
DOCTOR IN DISTRESS: After injuring his back in a fall, Sir Lancelot Spratt (James Robertson Justice), the pompous medical director at a London hospital, falls in love with his physical therapist, Iris (Barbara Murray). Softened by this encounter, Spratt seeks romantic advice from Simon Sparrow, a suave young doctor who has also become enamoured of a woman–Delia (Samantha Eggar), a beautiful would-be actress.
DOCTOR IN CLOVER: British Dr Grimsdyke (Leslie Phillips) and his surgeon mentor, Sir Lancelot, disrupt a hospital dance and a televised operation.
DOCTOR IN TROUBLE: Our hero, Dr Burke, greatly resents the success of the heart-throb television doctor, Basil Beauchamp (alias Dr Dare). When Basil is admitted to hospital under his care, he is about to relish in the situation until Sir Lancelot, a fan of Dr Dare, takes over and announces that he needs a holiday.
